I love my flex, however I HATE CHROME and I know before anyone says it "then why did you buy a limited?" and the reason is it had everything that I wanted, plus there were no SELs around and I got a heck of a deal on the off-lease expedition, and I get "Z" plan!
Now back to the statement, how is this rear aluminum hatch piece installed, is it covering a finished painted underneath surface, does it have pins that go through the sheetmetal to hold it on, how can I remove it?

thanks

Here is the instructions from the Ford workshop manuel.

Applique Liftgate
Removal

NOTE: Liftgate applique pin-type retainers are one-time use only. If the liftgate applique is removed, new pin-type retainers must be installed.

Remove the lower liftgate trim panel. For additional information, refer to Section 501-05.
Remove the liftgate applique nuts.
NOTE: The 3 outermost pin-type retainers on each side of the applique are the only pin-type retainers that are not accessible from the inside of the liftgate.

Release all accessible liftgate applique pin-type retainers from the inside of the liftgate.

Installation

Install new pin-type retainers to the liftgate applique.
Install the liftgate applique to the liftgate.
Install the liftgate applique nuts.
Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
Install the liftgate trim panel.

Based on other discussions about this I believe you will have a problem if you remove the panel because the rear camera lens goes through the panel. You might want to look into it first. Also, have you thought about how you will fill and refinish the holes left by removing the panel.

Looks like it is Cinnamon and White. I would swap doors with you, but you would lose the camera.

On the SE and SEL how is the applique trim attached? According to our dealer you order it separate and they put it on when the vehicle comes in from the factory.

If you remove the chrome on the Limmited you will see a recessed area. It isn't just applied over the stock tailgate. I suspect the SEL will be the same.

The aluminium applique is a decal, not paint. Beneath the decal is black plastic.
