I have a whining noise, sounds like power steering pump. I also smell natural gas when driving. Is this my converter ? Someone told me could be my ptu.

If the PTU seal leaks gear oil onto the exhaust you will get a sulfur smell.

Look and see if you have anything leaking onto the exhaust.

Does the whining noise change when you turn the steering wheel back & forth?

The noise is constant, thought maybe power steering was low but it's not. I have a vibration that gets a little better if I turn to the left. I had a person tell me about an ssm 45053 that has to do with the ptu. I have 145,000 miles on the car, so out of warranty.
