Ok, so I have a 2011 Flex that will be pulling a small pop up camper with a dry weight of 1770 pounds.  It's not set up with the factory towing package.  Should be well under the 2000 towing limit, however I was going to put a transmission cooler on it as well as a new hitch.  I  called two different Ford dealers, one said that there is no part number for the tranny or oil cooler, the other one said that on the 2011 Ford Flex it has the transmission cooler built in to the "condenser".

Is that the case, or do I need a tranny cooler to haul a 2000 pound popup, mostly over flat ground in Illilnois?

THanks,

Don

You have the tranny cooler. The tow package adds the engine oil cooler.

Thanks Mike,

Is the oil cooler necessary to tow a pop up camper?  or is it a make the owner feel good thing?

I don't have any experience towing but I believe that the oil cooler is part of the package that raises the factory installed tow package tow rating to 4500 lb along with the sway control. My best guess is you would be OK with the pop up.

Ok, so I picked up the camper last night and I was very impressed with how the Ford Flex towed it.  Plenty of power, smooth as silk, no temperature problems, just a nice pull.

I am going to have an oil cooler installed just as a safety precaution, don't want to ruin this engine.

Anyone here has owned or used a blue ox towing kit with their Flex? The reason that  I'm asking is because a cousin of mine both two kits and gave it as a birthday gift to me. To be honest, I have no clue or idea about towing by the way.
