I've seen a post from the administrator ( how to pry open the console to get at the brake shift interlock lever to get the car out of neutral even if the car is dead, but the last step baffles me:

7. Apply brake pedal, start the vehicle, and release the parking brake.

If my battery is dead, how can I start the vehicle? I'm willing to try this, but I don't want to start tearing apart my car unless I know this will get the car out of neutral. Like the car owner in the previously mentioned post, my dead car is stuck in the garage, and I need to back it up in order to get under the hood.

If you have opened everything up and gotten the shifter into neutral you will need to push the vehicle out far enough to get at the battery.
