I have had my flex a few days and found these ugly a _ _ dings on the shiny black door/ window trim pieces like the one where your unlock keypad is, Step back in different light and angles and find the dings,

Me and the dealer service and sales managers at my ford store today found a bunch of even new ones with the dings, they say there are calling the ford guys and getting the fix for me.

They have to report this, it's a manufacturing defect probably caused by a robot placing the doors on the flex's, it must be pushing to hard and and the trim is either aluminum or very thin gauge metal, it was incredible to see all the brand new ones had it too.

I will post later on the outcome. If your flex is real new don't wait to report it.

Talk with the dealer service manager and sales manager, walk back a see if all of them don't have what i am talking about.

I hope to have mine fixed soon.

Hello, after reading your post, I realized that I too have the same "dings" on my Flex. I thought that maybe I might have shut the door too hard and put them there myself. I then realized that ALL the doors have the same dings in them. It became obvious to me that this is in fact a factory defect. I spoke with my sales and service manager and they agreed shortly after I had showed them the same dings on the brand new Flexs on their lot. The service mgr told me of a customer that used a harsh cleaner on his Ford Expeditions shiny black panels and had to replaced them at a cost of $120 each due to the fact that they had to be "sawed" off the body. OMG! I am dropping off my Flex for closer inspection tomorrow. I will keep all informed as to the results of this.

Talked with the dealer yesterday and they contacted Ford. Ford acknowledged the issue and is currently working in a fix for this "defect". Was informed that it could take a few months for them to come up with one though. Report this asap if you haven't already.

I would suspect that the fix will most likely be to send it to a PDR specialist.

PDR? "paint - dent - repair/removal"

That is paintless dent removal. Actually, a good option if they are not real bad. I just had some hail damage repaired on my MKX, mostly on the hood & you would never know it was there.

I'm not so sure that these dings in the door frame panels are metal so a dent guy that does paintless ding removal can do it. ........I haven't found out what they are made of.........My dealer told me yesterday they are waiting on a cure. one of mine is scratched so it's being replaced for now. I saw a bunch of new ones as i said on the lot. So if your buying new make it a sales issue and get the fix in writing. Also found out that if you just brush those door panels with the dings that they scratch real easy, so it seem they may be plastic molded. I hope to hear soon when they will fix mine.

I agree with you. If they are not in thr metal, this won't work. I had a couple of dents in the plastic trim along the Vista Roof & they replaced those.
Kind of hard to believe so many cars got out of the factory without anyone noticing those dents. I guess the customer needs to do the quality control these days.

When I had my door panel key pad replaced because it was broken on its way to the dealer, there was no dents in the new one. I believe that when they were fastened at the factory they were put on to tight, plus they are made out of plastic. So now my other 3 doors still have the dents on those trim panels.

Don't get me going about how loose the seat covers are. Mine is cloth but the leather seats don't look much better.

After 12,000 km I am still loving it though. Can't wait for SEMA to see some more. I will post some pictures when I am back.

Any word on this?
I've got them also. It definately looks like someone / something installed these too tight.

The latest on my dings on the black door trim panels, The dealer has ordered a total of six as of today.

Every time they receive one in the mail it has been damaged in shipping. These damn things are so delicate. I have one they agreed to fix because of the scratch and ding done on the lot, but the other three doors are still being talked about. Haven't got one replaced as of yet but when they get a good shipment i should have one done. They are installed with two sided tape and should come off very easy with the glue remover. They are thinking of putting a solid backing two sided tape on them to prevent the dings when applied and held in place while the tape sticks. Hope to be completed very soon.

For anyone buying a new flex walk up to the car at an angle in the sun and slowly walk from front in an curved line and raising up and down you will see them plain as day. Then insist on getting it in writing that they will be fixed or fix them prior to purchase.

good luck all. I hope i get the final fix soon.

I'm being told the new parts are on the way, they have said to me that they sent some like 5 times now but arrived damaged each time........BUNK !! All BUNK....

They also closed out my open ticket at the warranty shop, probably to avoid ford from getting a red flag on why it hasn't been fixed.....I'm PISSED..........I'm going to tell everyone i know to stay the hell away from the flex if something isn't done soon........I paid dearly for a nice new car and i'm having way to much trouble;

You would think in these hard times of selling new units they would want a good reputation with QUALITY AND RESPONSE TO REPAIR WHEN NEEDED>

As usual they don't give a shiZ

I'll junk this piece of crap when i get tired of it and go back to GM where i was for years and years.....

What a flippin mistake i think i made.............DAMN THEM FORD PEOPLE>

Perhaps try a different dealer?

:banghead: 25 years, working on 8 different Fords, from 4 different dealers, I can honestly say it's not the dealership. More specifically, the service department. During the last deal I made on my Flex, the sales guy was talkin' up the dealership and when he got to the pitch about his service department, I cut him off short telling him that I would hope I never have to visit them and will take my Flex elsewhere if needed. The deal is made out front, the repeat customer is made out back! Don't balme "Ford", just your dealership's service department OR go back to GM and hope they don't disappear.

bought my flex two days ago and brought it home at night and didn't see anything wrong with it. got home from work yesterday and put on my gators license plate cover and noticed horrible swirl marks on the side panels. started looking at it more closely and they're scratches! also, i found a crack on the back panel on the driver side.

we took it up to the dealership after work today so they could take a look at it and that's when we noticed all the dings on every panel.

i read about the dents on here, so that didn't surprise me....but the crack and the scratches from some a-hole that doesn't know how to detail really ticked me off. i mean, it looks absolutely horrible in the sun. you can see the whole pattern of the brush strokes they used on it.

i should hear back from the dealership on monday to see when i can take it back to get everything replaced.

I never updated this but the dents in the panels were part of a TSB so the service dept. made it right and replaced every black panel on the Flex. It's all good now and looks great. I didn't realize that in order to remove your back panels the glass must be removed because they are rivoted in there.....

I have two dings on my drivers side door. I was thinking that someone at work did it. I guess I will report it to the dealer tomorrow. These are the only two dings on the whole vehicle that I can see. Thanks for the information.
