So, I started my Flex obsession thanks to National Rent-a-Car. I do a lot of business travel, and in recent years have stopped using Hertz in a lot of cities. National's "Emerald Program" offers me the ability to pick any car in a designated area on the lot. Especially in Southern California, National actually has better selection and service than Hertz does. And, they sometimes have a Flex or 2 in the Emerald lot.

So, here's a little background on my needs - I'm a big dude. I'm about 6'4 and 300 lbs, and my 2 teenage boys are taller than me (thankfully not wider.) Getting me, my wife, 2 sons, and my 8 yr old daughter into one vehicle has always been a challenge. 3 row seating is a must for any long-distance trip. That typically left minivans, or some SUV's. I didn't want either, and when I saw the Flex, my curiosity was piqued.

This year, I've done about 7 trips to Southern Cal, and on 2 of those trips, I managed to grab a Flex, and was blown away by the luxury, style, comfort, and the gadgets! :-) After spending years buying old used Fords, I was really not a fan (Pinto, Bronco II, Escort, Explorer all in my past) and I even once vowed never to buy another Ford again. Boy, was I wrong!

For those on the fence, it may be worthwhile to rent a Flex for a specific trip using National. I haven't seen Flexes at any other rental place, and check first. Your first long ride will convince you. :-)

I have seen them at Avis in Erie at the airport, Hertz in Mentor at 615 & 2 and Enterprise in Chardon.
